The Forest of Adventure by Katie M John

Yay, another this-was-pretty-good.

There was a little bit for everyone in this – even a tad of time travel – and I am a pushover for Arthurian legend (although I HATE Lancelot – but that is just a personal preference and has nothing to do with this book).

So, this had been on my Kindle wish-list for a few weeks, but I kept putting it off and putting it off…aaaaaand putting it off. Until I finally got it.  And I am so glad I did! It was a great read and I can’t wait for the second book to be released (because we got left with one heck of a cliffie).

Want to know what I LOVED about this book. It wasn’t painfully predictable and at no point did my eyes glaze over and everyones actions were believable. And who doesn’t love reading a book about knights in shingin armour who are willing to have a good old steel on steel fight for you – sure it could end in death or severe loss of limbs but you have to admit, it is pretty darn flattering.

My heart went out to Sam. His feelings for Mina for so clear for everyone to see that I thought my heart was going to break at how hurt he was by the circumstances that were out of all their hands.

Another great aspect of this book is that on top of all of the magical stuff that is happening there are real life issues that are being dealt with and Mina doesn't abandon her friends and is still there for them.

This book is just not straight forward fairy stuff though, we have ties in with Lancelot, Merlin, King Arthur and the Lady of the Lake. How much funkier can you get? Yeah, you can't really....

This was by turns heartbreaking and magical. I would recommend this read to anyone. I cannot wait to get stuck into book 2!

  1. This is sounds pretty cool!
I'm a sucker for Arthurian stuff too, and I don't dig Lancelot either, though I recommend The Song of the Sparrow - which is told on the perspective of Elaine of Ascolat, the girl who's heart Lancelot breaks; and it's awesome because (SPOILERISH!!!!!) She gets over him :D
